About The Provider
Pediatric neurologist Dr. Shannon McGuire began her educational journey in New Orleans where she earned a medical degree at Louisiana State University’s School of Medicine. After medical school, she completed two residency programs. The first being in Pediatrics at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia and the second being in Child Neurology at LSU Health Sciences Center in conjunction with Children’s Hospital of New Orleans. In addition, she served as visiting Fellow in Neurophysiology and Intraoperative Monitoring at Miami Children’s Hospital and returned to LSU Health Sciences Center to complete a Fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology, Epilepsy and Sleep Medicine.
She has spent 25+ years investing in her specialties which include Child Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology and the treatment of children who suffer with the neurological disorder of Epilepsy. Dr. McGuire has dedicated her career to researching, publishing articles and passionately pursuing ways to combat epilepsy which at this time has no known cure. In addition, she has a special interest in pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic evaluation and treatment of epilepsy. Dr. McGuire is member of several professional organizations including the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, the American Epilepsy Society, Child Neurology Society and the Southern Pediatric Neurology Society. Dr. McGuire also served as Director for the Pediatric section of the Louisiana Epilepsy Center of Excellence and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Epilepsy Foundation of Louisiana.
Dr. McGuire is a native of New Orleans and when she’s not practicing medicine, she enjoys spending her free time running, working on puzzles of any kind, reading mystery novels and playing music on stringed instruments such as mandolin, guitar and the ukulele.
