Palliative care nurse practitioner Janci Detwiler specializes in improving the quality of life for people with serious, chronic or life-threatening illnesses. She is specially trained in managing complex medical symptoms and providing comprehensive care that addresses the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients. After earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing from LSU Health Science Center in New Orleans, Detwiler completed a master’s degree in nursing pediatric nurse practitioner studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She joined the Our Lady of Lourdes Women’s & Children’s Hospital team in 2008 as an ER nurse technician and later served as a registered nurse in the hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, the only PICU in Acadiana. Next, Detwiler joined Our Lady of Lourdes Children’s Health as a nurse practitioner in the Our Lady of Lourdes Children’s Specialty Center practice of Kenneth Habetz, MD, pediatric neurologist. She moved to pediatric palliative care in February 2021.
