A native of Baton Rouge, Dr. Funes is a graduate of Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his Pediatric training at The Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Pediatric Residency Program, during which time he served as the Ben Taub Hospital Neonatology Chief Resident. As a medical student, he was awarded the Herbert Rothschild Award as the outstanding pediatric medical student in his class. Dr. Funes became a pediatrician because he wanted to become a part of families' lives and help them raise their children to be moral, responsible, compassionate, productive adults. After watching his dad as a pediatrician, he saw the impact he was able to make in the lives he touched, and it seemed like the best job in the world! Dr. Funes is fluent in Spanish and has been practicing pediatric medicine in the Baton Rouge area for over 20 years. He currently serves as the President of Health Leaders Network and the FMOLHS Medical Director for Ambulatory Quality. He resides in Baton Rouge with his wife and two children.
